The Outings:
We have chosen the most beautilful towns in Umbria for you to explore during the week.
Umbria is as beautiful as Tuscany but less affected by the tidal wave of summer and autumn tourism.

Cathedral of Assisi
Known as the Land of the Saints, Assisi sits on a hill, with magnificent churches and monasteries dominating the surrounding countryside. Over the centuries pilgrims flocked to the town of Assisi, birthplace of St Francis. Another must-see town is Perugia, its medieval palaces and fountains make Perugia a young and vibrant university town with a Parisian-style street life and buzzing piazzas.

Perugia
Cortona sits on the Tuscan borderline and is an encounter with art, history and with spirituality. The town is surrounded by ancient fortified walls, and this built in planning restriction has meant that nearly all new development has occurred lower down the hill, leaving Cortona as a delightful medieval town to explore on foot.

Cortona
Built on a hillside, Gubbio is one of the most ancient Umbrian towns most known for its tradition of the annual Corsa Dei Ceri and its gothic architecture. Very few cars are allowed in the town centre itself due to its narrow alleys and steep stairways, thus preserving its authenticity throughout the years.

Gubbio
Spello rises up between Assisi and Foligno and holds many monuments testimony to the roman era. Once an ancient luxury retirement colony for the Roman Empire, Spello is a small town of 7,000 people and boasts more than 20 small medieval and Renaissance churches.

Spello
All of these towns are within reasonable travelling distance, giving you more time to discover the local culture and this unspoiled corner of Italy.
